Two abandoned homes go up in smoke in different neighborhoods

Houston firefighters had their hands full overnight, fighting two separate infernos at abandoned houses.

Firefighters suspect arson in a pair of fires at abandoned homes Tuesday morning.

The first one started just after midnight at a house on Houston's south side on St. Augustine near Dreyfus. Firefighters say the place was almost empty, so there's just minor fire damage. But they called for arson investigators because it looks like the fire started in several different locations in the house.

About 15 minutes later on Elysian near Opelousas, which is just a few miles away, another abandoned house went up in flames.

Again, nobody was inside and there was almost nothing damaged. The house is boarded up, but firefighters suspect arson because there's no electricity and nobody to accidentally start a fire.
