Fireman's Fund Insurance Company Safety Grant Awarded $8,397.00
In March, Fireman's Fund Insurance Company awarded HFD Station 19 a $8,397.00 grant, courtesy of Colemont Insurance Brokers of Dallas, TX . This grant was part of the Fireman's Fund Heritage Program, launched in 2004. Under this program, Fireman's Fund awards millions of dollars in grants each year to fire departments and burn prevention programs across the country through their employees and independent agents. Colemont Insurance Brokers of Dallas, TX selected Station 19 to receive this generous grant. A check was presented to the station, and will be used to purchase various items related to firefighter safety and improved delivery of services to the citizens we serve. To date, station 19 has purchased complete sets of extrication eyewear and gloves, high-rise taglines, and special 'lock out' kits that are carried on both the engine and the ladder truck. The eyewear and extrication gloves are an improvement over the standard issue gear issued by the department and make this equipment readily available to our members when called to extrication or entrapment incidents. The retractable high-rise tag lines are also an upgrade to the equipment we carry and allow firefighters to search large or otherwise complex buildings while maintaining contact with other crewmembers. These 'lifelines' also provide a means of escape in the event of an evacuation, and help prevent disorientation in zero visibility. The new lock-out kits are a universal tool that will allow quick access to virtually any vehicle with a minimal amount of property damage, and are especially useful during the hot Houston summers. They provide a quick, easy method of accessing a locked vehicle, when breaking a window is not yet necessary. In May, the check was officially presented to the members of station 19 in a ceremony held at the station. Members of Fireman's Insurance, Colemont Brokers, HFD top brass, firefighters and their families were in attendance. BBQ was served, and station 19 presented Fireman's Fund representatives with thank-you plaques and official station 19 t-shirts. On behalf of HFD Station 19, thank you.
